Metronomy - The Look.
I’ve decided that I love Metronomy despite mistakenly lumping them into the same category as the awful MGMT for many moons without actually hearing their music. They’re so cute and small and demand to be kept in a box. I like them even though their video contains a stop-motion seagull pecking at things to impress another seagull (I hate seagulls and most other feral birds with a penchant for pecking my eyes out.)
And this song! It’s so polite and sweet and yearning - it goes round and round in a whirl but never becomes hurried or confused. It’s like they’ve captured a quiet moment of happiness that you get when you’re holding someone’s hand at the end of the pier and nothing is really happening, but you’re struck by a sad thought that you might not get another hand-holding opportunity as perfect as this again and you squeeze their hand a little tighter and smile to stop yourself crying about something that might not even happen.
Thus it seems totally appropriate that in this video (SPOILERS) the pair of seagulls end up driving dodgem cars with a third James Dean seagull, who crashes the dodgem car and dies in a fire.
