The Vids Are Alright

About TVAA

This blog is about music videos. If you want to know what I think of the songs, you can find my exciting and witty opinions at The Singles Jukebox.

Duran Duran - The Reflex

The biggest band in Britain at the peak of their career, with a single that went to #1 on both sides of the Atlantic. Their success and the excesses of the music industry 1984 ensured the budget for this video would be monstrous.

So what the hell happened? A boring concert video with some vague lighting effects? Where are the fast cars? The yachts? The incomprehensible storyline?

Well… sit through it until 3.20 and you will get your answer. I guess the remaining budget went on Nick Rhodes’ hairspray/woolly jumper allowance.

Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say:

Some symbolic scenes from the official video were taken and later mixed with the alternate version shown in the band’s concert film Arena (An Absurd Notion); in the final segment when the band, the crowd and even the fans undertake the final and crucial battle against the evil Dr. Durand Durand.

CITATION NEEDED. (But if true, why-ay-ay-ay-ay didn’t they uuuuse it in the first place?)
